How to choose between a jaw and an impact crusher for a primary stage

The choice usually comes down to abrasiveness and the shape you need. Jaw crushers handle hard, abrasive rock with low wear cost. Impact crushers give a better cubical shape and a higher reduction ratio but wear faster on silica-rich material.

As a rule of thumb, if the material contains more than 15 % quartz, start with a jaw. Below that, and when a good product shape is worth the wear cost, an impactor can replace two crushing stages with one.

Five checks before you move a mobile crushing plant to a new site

Transport width, total weight per axle, local road permits, discharge conveyor clearance and the power supply. Missing any one of these turns a one-day move into a week of work.

Measure the narrowest gate on the route before you fold anything. Most mobile plants fold to 2.55 m, but the conveyor discharge height often decides how the plant can be positioned on site.

Reducing flakiness in aggregate: why the cavity matters more than the model

Flakiness is produced by the crushing cavity, not by the machine badge. A laminated cavity — where material is crushed between layers rather than against a flat surface — produces far fewer elongated particles.

Changing the cavity profile on an existing cone crusher is often cheaper than buying a new machine, and on one Nigerian project it cut the flakiness index from 22 % to 9 %.
